Public safety and justice

Microsoft CityNext public safety solutions make cities safer by taking advantage of cloud, Big Data, mobile, and social technologies in solutions for intelligence and analysis, surveillance, and neighborhood and emergency management.

The University of Puerto Rico at Humacao wanted to reduce crime and improve compliance with federal campus security rules. To help meet these goals, the school deployed the UPRH Alert mobile app created by INVID. Students and staff can press a button on their personal devices and send out an alert that is routed through a web server hosted on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. The alert uses GPS to pinpoint the user’s location, enabling the school’s security team to dispatch an officer quickly to investigate.

Prison and offender management

Today's correctional facilities are highly complex institutions where the systems of government, justice, and law enforcement connect and where the needs of various stakeholders in the criminal justice system—including victims, families, police, court officials, caseworkers, and corrections personnel—are each represented. Tracking and managing offenders throughout the entire corrections system, from intake to release, and notifying affected parties of changing offender status, are responsibilities requiring coordination and management across multiple systems.
